  • When to go on safari in Kenya?
The climate in Kenya allows for safaris all year round. Obviously the climate changes throughout the year but all seasons remain interesting for observing wildlife. December to March: This is the short dry season. It's summer in the country, temperatures easily reach 30 degrees. The chances of being able to see more animals are excellent because the water points are reduced, the animals are then forced to head towards the last water sources. In addition, the vast grassy plains dry out and the bushes become less bulky, making it easier to spot animals from a distance. During this season, the trails in the bush are all passable, unlike the weeks following the rainy period. April to May: It is the long rainy season but the days are still pleasant since the rain falls mainly at the end of the day and at night. This season has its advantages since there are fewer tourists, the vegetation is green and lush and accommodation is at the lowest price. Rain can make access to certain areas of the parks difficult, but the guides know all the access points. June to October: This is the long dry season. Temperatures are pleasant, nights are cool and rain is rare. It's the high tourist season, it's busier, so prices are higher. As the vegetation becomes increasingly sparse, it is easier to spot animals and navigate the plains, with paths becoming more passable. From mid-August to the end of September, it is possible to observe the Great Migration in the Masai Mara National Reserve, millions of wildebeest, zebra and antelope cross the plains of the Masai Mara in search of fresh pastures . Crossing the Mara River is the last obstacle for them to overcome before reaching green pastures, since they must face voracious crocodiles. November to mid-December: This is the short rainy season. Temperatures begin to rise gradually, leading to rains in November until around the beginning of December. It usually rains at the end of the day but not as often or as hard as during the long rainy season. The advantage is that there are fewer tourists, the vegetation is magnificent and the prices are reduced.
